This review also has a segment filmed at ConBravo 2012, and features a number of participants and guests. A huge thanks to the folks there; they were incredibly accommodating.
Anyway, this week's review is called:

CAST A DEADLY SPELL (Warning! Readers Advisory!)
This week I have a movie I've promised to review for a while now. I finally got to it. It has a surprisingly all star cast (Fred Ward, David Warner, Clancy Brown, Julianne Moore, etc.), and is actually a pretty decent film. PLUS the review has a quick cameo from the Nostalgia Critic shot at ConBravo 2012, so everything is pretty awesome there. What movie is this, you ask? Why its...

THE DUNWICH HORROR (Warning! Readers Advisory!)
This week, its a direct to TV film for SyFy. And it was directed by everyone's favourite Transmorphers director/writer, Leigh Scott. Oh dear. Deary, deary me. Oh, but Jeffrey Combs is in it. So that's something! Get ready, kids, this is...

HP Lovecraft's "NECRONOMICON"
We have entered into the "quality" phase off Lovecraft films: The movies that were never made for the big screen. Direct to VHS, direct to TV...oh yeah. So which one did I pick this time? Why, a movie that turns HP Lovecraft into a pulp hero. A film called...

From Beyond (Warning! Readers Advisory!)
We missed a week as I got my schedule synched up with that of stage actor Leeman Kessler, who will be joining the Chasing the Muse team for the next 10 weeks in the role of none other than Howard Phillips Lovecraft himself! But oh, friends...what a movie we have for you today.
It is none other than another acclaimed Lovecraftian adaptation by director Stuart Gordon, starring Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton. That's right, my friends, this week we're looking at...

Better Off Read- WOLF
I've really tried with Better Off Read to pick movies that people might not have heard of, but which are probably worth a watch, even when they're awful. For this week, I tracked down in the $5 bin at HMV my favourite Jack Nicholson film of all time.
...it also gave me an excuse to make a Bravestarr joke. HOW OFTEN DO I GET TO MAKE BRAVESTARR JOKES?!?! So for those of you who might have forgotten about it in the deluge of Nicholson's better known films, allow me to introduce you to:

Vlog- I, Vampyre (CAiNE Edition)
I'm working on a video for a convention this weekend called CAiNE (Canadian Annual NatIonal Event), which is a Live Action Roleplaying event being held in St. John, New Brunswick. The video itself is an overtop and fictional vampire named "Lord Benedict Bellamorte" bemoaning the state of the vampire in popular culture.
I got bored. So here's a vlog talking about it.

Atomic Robo and the Shadow from Beyond Time (WRA Episode 38)
While I don't normally review comics, there occasionally comes along a book that I just *HAVE* to look at. In this case, its an Atomic Robo comic. Special thanks to Featherweight both for appearing as, and voicing Robo, but also for the Dr. Dinosaur puppet and the title card. Yaaaay!

Better Off Read- Curse II: The Bite
In this week's Better Off Read, I revist a horror movie I haven't watched in nearly 20 years. Back in the day, my buddy Mike's brother used to work at a local video store (remember back when we had stores you rented VHS at?), and would let us rent anything we wanted. This was how I got introduced to franchises like Childs Play, Friday the 13th, Critters, Halloween...and today's little diddy! The 1989 in-name-only sequel to the 1987 The Curse, its...

Better Off Read- Cloak & Dagger
In this week's Better Off Read, I take a trip down Nostalgia Lane and kick the film can of a favoured movie from my childhood. This movie has everything: Spies, video games, roleplaying games, murder, invisible bombers...
And all in glorious 1980s PG rating! Thus I present:

In What We Watched, I talk about my favourite cartoons of yesteryear, ones you might not have heard of. I school you on them and try to explain their just plain *WEIRD* premises. ITS TIME FOR ANOTHER MAGFEST CROSSOVER! (YAAAAAAAAY!)
So while I was at MAGFest I got together with a pair of wonderful ladies you might know: Diamanda Hagan and The Omega Geek. We hung out, we drank, and we filmed a review of Norway's contribution to the "found footage" genre of films...

WRA: Lets Read! "The Bumble Beast" by Harriet Grey
A few days after Christmas, I sat down with my girlfriend, Sailor Gallifrey, and set out to read, from cover to cover and in one take, a mystery book donated to me by my logo designer and title card artist, Featherweight.
That book turned out to be The Bumble Beast by Harriet Grey, a novelization of a classic Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers season 1 episode, "The Grumble Bee". Its...its not very good.
So sit back, relax, and watch as we read (and intersperse some episode footage) this novel in a two part take. So without further ado:

MAGFest X Vlog (Derek the Bard)
Happy New Year, everyone! And...yes, I realize that I haven't had a new episode out since Christmas, but I was taking a break while visiting family over the holidays. And...what's that other thing I did last week...oh that's right *grin*
MAGFEST!!!!
That's right, true believers, I spent 4 glorious days last week relaxing in National Harbour, Maryland with my fellow reviewers and a few thousand other nerds. I filmed two crossovers which you should see in the next few weeks (reviewing Trollhunter with Diamanda Hagan and the Omega Geek, and Extreme Ghostbusters with Andrew Dickman in a special double-length episode of What We Watched). But I also did a lot of photography and a little big of vlogging while I was there.
So sit back, relax, and allow me to immerse you in but a fraction of my MAGFest experience.
