MONSTER BRAWL (Better Off Read)

This is a short review, and it is out of order with the rest of the week...but its about a film that I saw and just *HAD* to talk about. Do you like monster movies? Cheesy B- and Z-grade flicks? Do you like wrestling? Ever wanted to see what would happen if a vampire and a mummy got into a smackdown? Well look no further, my friends, because I have just the movie for you! This is...

MONSTER BRAWL

HP Lovecraft's "NECRONOMICON"

Welcome back, friends, to the Summer of Lovecraft. For the next three months I'll be reviewing movies and books based on the work of HP Lovecraft, and providing a humorous running commentary.

We have entered into the "quality" phase off Lovecraft films: The movies that were never made for the big screen. Direct to VHS, direct to TV...oh yeah. So which one did I pick this time? Why, a movie that turns HP Lovecraft into a pulp hero. A film called...

HP LOVECRAFT'S: "NECRONOMICON"

From Beyond (Warning! Readers Advisory!)

Welcome back, friends, to the Summer of Lovecraft. For the next three months I'll be reviewing movies and books based on the work of HP Lovecraft, and providing a humorous running commentary.

We missed a week as I got my schedule synched up with that of stage actor Leeman Kessler, who will be joining the Chasing the Muse team for the next 10 weeks in the role of none other than Howard Phillips Lovecraft himself! But oh, friends...what a movie we have for you today.

It is none other than another acclaimed Lovecraftian adaptation by director Stuart Gordon, starring Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton. That's right, my friends, this week we're looking at...

FROM BEYOND

Review- Re-Animator (Warning! Readers Advisory!)

And thus it begins, The Summer of Lovecraft on Warning! Readers Advisory!. 7 movies and 4 books based on, and adapted from, the works of that master of pulp horror and general douchebaggery, HP Lovecraft. In the weeks to come I will review such seminal works as From Beyond, Necronomicon, Dunwich Horror, Dagon, Cast a Deadly Spell and In the Mouth of Madness. Additionally, I will review all four of Charles Stross' The Laundry novels, chronicling the adventures of British secret agent and tech support guru, Bob Howard, as he faces off against the forces of the Mythos.

But how are we to begin this week? Why, with that least Lovecraftian of Lovecraft films, a little Jeffrey Combs number called...

RE-ANIMATOR

Warlock (Better Off Read)

Well, this is unexpected. This is my longest episode yet...probably because I decided to shove in some amusing education and context for the film. With that said, I quite enjoy this movie, and I hope that by watching this review you can understand its manic joys as well.

That film, my friends, is called:

WARLOCK

Clerks: The Animated Series (What We Watched)

Wow, two What We Watched episodes in two weeks! *AMAZING*!

This time, I polled you, the viewers, asking to pick what I was going to review this week. And the answer?

CLERKS: THE ANIMATED SERIES

Snoogins.

GI Joe (What We Watched)

Well, What We Watched returns because the current book review is taking longer than expected. Now, I have a list of weird GI Joe episodes that I want to tell you about, and this week I picked three of the strangest. So here's a little review of that awesome show called...

GI JOE: A REAL AMERICAN HERO

(you may commence your singing of "AMERICA! FUCK YEAH!" now)
